Four seasons are experienced around the world due to the movement of the earth around the sun. These periods include winter, summer, spring, and autumn. There exist some similarities between winter and summer as discussed below.

  • What is winter?

Winter is the coldest season that occurs between spring and autumn seasons. It happens in the northern hemisphere from December to February and in the southern region from June to August. This season is caused by the tilting of the earth on its axis such that both northern and southern hemisphere are blocked from direct sunlight and temperature.

Similarities Between Winter and Summer

  • What is summer?

Summer is the hottest season of the year as compared to the other three seasons. It occurs in the northern hemisphere from June to August and in the southern region from December to February. This season is characterized by longer days and shorter nights.

Similarities Between Winter and Summer

  1. Similarities between Winter and Summer in terms on “Extreme Temperatures”

One of the main similarity between summer and spring is that they are characterized by severe temperatures. For summer, the temperatures are scorching in both the northern and southern hemisphere are exposed to the direct rays of the sun while at the same time having long hot days. On the other hand, winter is characterized by freezing temperatures making the conditions to be icy. Both the southern and northern poles are blocked from direct sunrays hence experiencing very low temperatures.

  1. Similarities between Winter and Summer in terms on “Length of the day and night”

The other similarity between summer and winter is that both affect the range of the day and that of the night. During the summer, the days are very long because either southern or the northern side has been exposed to the sun while the nights are very short. On the other hand, in the winter season, nights are very long and cold while the days are slightly warm and brief. It is meriting noting that the length of the day and night will start approaching each other as the season culminates ultimately arriving at a point when both day and night are the same.

  1. Similarities between Winter and Summer in terms on “Both happen at the same time of the year”.

It is important to note that both seasons happen at the same time of the year. It is not that summer will happen in a different month while winter will occur in a different month. While the northern hemisphere is experiencing summer, the southern hemisphere is experiencing winter at the same time. The situation is exchanged such that when the southern hemisphere is experiencing summer, the northern hemisphere is experiencing winter at the same time. This is justified by the fact that, when the earth is tilted on its axis such that the southern hemisphere is closer to the sun, the northern hemisphere is tilted such that it is further from the sun and vice versa.

  1. Similarities between Winter and Summer in terms on “School Holidays”

As we have already indicated, summer and winter are characterized by extreme hot or cold temperatures. This makes it hard for other activities to be carried out, especially in the open or in classes that are not build to sustain heat during winter or remain cool during summer. Therefore, most of the countries allow students to go for a long holiday so that they can deal with effects of the extreme temperatures at home. Besides, many celebrations, especially the United States happen during the summer and winter seasons, which explains why students are allowed to go for holidays.

  1. Similarities between Winter and Summer in terms on “Sporting Events”

The other similarity between summer and winter is that different bodies have organized several sporting events such that they happen during these seasons. This is because many people are on their holidays and others have gone to tour in other parts of the world, which makes it easy to attract a considerable number of spectators and viewers across the globe. For example, many Olympic events happen during the summer and winter seasons.

Conclusion

  • Summer and winter may have differences and similarities, but anyone can enjoy both seasons.
  • Winter and summer are contrast of each other. One season is cold, snowy, low air pressure, and more extended nights, while the different season is hot, sunny, high air pressure, and extended holidays.
