Why are Almonds good for You?

Almonds are good for our health as long as they are consumed in proper amounts. Excess consumption of almonds might not be good for our health. Almonds are generally classified under the category of nuts. But technically they are existing as seeds. It is found that one ounce of almonds have about 35 percent of reference daily intake for manganese and vitamin E as well as 20 percent for magnesium. Almonds are also rich in phosphorus, vitamin B2, copper, potassium and calcium. The almonds have healthy fat content and hence they have to be stored properly but not exposed to high temperatures. Their exposure to high temperatures might allow the fats to get oxidized into free radicals which are harmful to us. Almonds are safe for consumption when they are roasted to the temperature of 160 degree Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Above this temperatures the fats will damaged in the almonds.

Almonds are known to possess benefits over keeping the heart healthy. Regular intake of almonds will reduce the bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase the good cholesterol (HDL) levels in us. Almonds are known to consist of antioxidants too. Too much eating of almonds will add heavy fat content to our body. The necessary quantity of daily intake of almonds is one ounce which will be equal to 28 grams of them or 23 whole sized almonds. One ounce of these seeds consists of 14 grams of fats, 6 grams of proteins and 6 grams of carbohydrates with total calories of 163. It is a rich source of dietary fats.

Almonds are found to be enhancing the brain function, improve the skin color, provide high energy levels to the body, and increase the growth of hair. Eating almonds will help reducing the risk for heart diseases. The presence of calcium in almonds was found to decrease risk for colon and rectal cancers. Researchers also believe that almonds are involved in reducing risk for lung cancer.
