Nail lifting is one common issue that many women experience especially those who are applying acrylic nail color by themselves. Nail lifting happens when the acrylic or fiberglass overlay separates from the nail plate.

Different factors like the nail condition or the client’s health, improper nail preparation, client’s lifestyle contributes greatly to lifting.

Nail Condition and Client’s Health. Stress, poor diet and taking various medications for common sicknesses like heart disease, thyroid problems and diabetes can cause a breakdown in the bonding process of the acrylic nails. Applying acrylic nail color to damaged nails can also cause nail lifting. A client who has allergies and is sensitive to the product is also an issue.

Improper Nail Preparation. Most of the time nail lifting is caused by improper nail preparation. If you are applying acrylic nail color always remember to remove the natural oil of the nails. Put moisture on the primer to prevent bonding. Always remove the pterygium or the cuticle that sticks to the nail plate. Lastly, don’t forget to remove the excess nail dust.

Client’s lifestyle. The client’s work and lifestyle can also cause their nails to lift. Warn your clients that nail biting and nail picking can cause lifting. Their occupation also contributes to lifting. If they work as a typist or any similar job that gives pressure on the nails then this is also one factor to consider.

In conclusion, there are a lot of reasons why acrylic nails lift, it can either be because of the nail’s natural condition, improper nail preparation or the client’s lifestyle.

It’s called acrylic. Not acrylic nail color.

Polish is applied to acrylic nails and normally there is no chipping.

However, there is no such thing as ‘acrylic nail color’.
