Why Do Apples Make Me Hungry

If you are a health conscious individual, you must be following the old adage about what eating an apple a day can do. That’s right. They should help you avoid the incredible amount doctors charge you these days just to tell you; you need to stop eating this and that.

The controversies that involve the apple don’t seem to stop since it got involved in the Great Temptation of Adam and Eve. From there it got applauded for keeping the doctors away and now it’s back in the limelight again; apples making people hungry. It’s very ironic to say the least. Why eat something that can only make you hungrier?

The apple belongs to the fruit family. And as such, fruits are mostly made up of pure carbohydrates. You may remember that carbohydrates are responsible for giving energy to the body. This energy comes from its innate properties of being an organic compound. Organic compounds, plainly said, are substances that can be broken down so that energy can be extracted. It’s like how fuel is burned so the resulting heat can power an engine.

With that said, the apple is approximately 95% pure carbohydrates. This means that once inside your stomach it virtually disappears and turn into energy that your body uses up. This will ultimately leave you with an ’empty feeling, thus effectively telling your brain that you need to eat some more. It’s why diet experts say it is best to eat an apple together with a complete meal that includes proteins like meat so you can get that full feeling in your belly.

While apples can make you hungry, it’s no reason to stop eating them. Their nutritional value remains the same and you only need to adjust your diet so you can get a more complete meal every time. After all an apple a day, alright you know the rest.

Apples were not the forbidden fruit from the garden of eden. More likely, given they originate from the middle east, pomegranates were their undoing.

The garden of Eden was definitely on Earth. Genesis tells us that God created the heavens and the EARTH and all that was on the earth. That is where he created man and woman. It does not say any where that the fruit was an apple, but Eden was definitely on earth.

I don’t think so. An apple by itself will make me extremely hungry; to the point where my stomach aches. Conversely, if I eat only a candy bar, or chips, or anything else containing “95% pure carbohydrates” I don’t get the same feeling. Seeing that apples are much lower on the glycemic index than these other foods, my body should take longer to process the sugar and keep me feeling full.

I think there is something else going on here. I think that, for a percentage of the population, apples in particular make certain people hungry. I myself just ate a large dinner, complete with protein, and was satisfied. I had a small portion of applesauce for dessert, and now I feel starving – as if I’d eaten nothing. I don’t really understand it, but based on what I’ve read online, there are clearly some people who have the same “hunger reaction” that I do to apples, and others for whom it’s not a problem at all. I’m really curious about this. One comment I read said it may have to do with Slavic roots, which I have. Maybe we react differently to the compounds in an apple than others?
