An avocado is a large berry-like fruit with a single seed inside of it. Its skin is typically dark green but may turn to dark purple or maroon when ripe. The flesh is yellowish to greenish in color and has a very soft consistency. Avocado is one of many fruits that are considered very healthy because of its various nutrients including potassium, folic acid, and several vitamins including Vitamins C, E, and K among others. Aside from its nutritional value though, avocados are also considered fat-rich fruits. Avocados are associated with fat because they really do contain lots of fat. In fact, as much as three-fourths of the energy that people can get from avocadoes comes from fat. This is the main reason why many people refer to avocados as the fatty fruit.

Avocados remain healthy choices because most of the fat they contain are actually good kinds of fat or mono-unsaturated fat. This kind of fat is actually needed by the body in the performance of many processes and activities. Studies have even shown that the fat content in avocadoes can actually help lower cholesterol levels in humans. In as short as one week of regular avocado intake, people can have improvements in the blood cholesterol levels. Aside from the fatty content, avocadoes are also very high in fiber which also helps to keep cholesterol levels normal and healthy.

Many people who are trying to lose weight also try to avoid eating avocadoes because of the high-fat content. Many experts believe though that regular avocado consumption will actually help dieters and weight-watchers because of its fiber, nutrient, and good-fat content. Avoiding the fat in the fruit means that people are not able to take advantage of the other nutrients it contains.  Many health experts would also like to point out that the good fat in avocadoes actually help to raise metabolic rates which further helps to burn more calories and improve weight management.
