Why do Chihuahuas shake?

Chihuahuas are adorable, cute little dogs that are known for their big and charismatic personalities. Of late, Chihuahuas have gotten their fair share of stardom, as they have been spotted to be carried around by big Hollywood celebrities, like Paris Hilton, Hilary Duff and Britney Spears.

This breed of dog easily adapts to smaller spaces; that’s why you need not own a villa with a lush garden to get a Chihuahua. They can easily fit in small apartments and condos. They are known to be alert, playful, cuddly and very affectionate to their owners. However, before deciding to own one, one should know that Chihuahuas are a little bit nervous, and often shake a lot.

There are several factors why Chihuahuas shake, and if you as an owner know these, the shaking wouldn’t really bother you at all, and you will enjoy your time together with your mini pet.

If your Chihuahua is short-haired, they are very sensitive to cold temperature, and so you should have a snuggly blanket ready to comfort them during their sleep. It is also appropriate for you to dress them up with coats designed especially for them to keep them warm.

Chihuahuas tend to shake when they are excited and nervous. Seeing their owner after a long day of being alone will surely make Chihuahuas’ adrenaline go up, and they shiver or shake out of excitement. On the other hand, as they are known to be suspicious of other people surrounding them, they shake when they feel uncomfortable with strangers. They are generally more at ease with their owners.

One major factor that owners should monitor is the sugar level of the Chihuahua or any other small breed of dog for that matter. When their sugar level drops, they tend to be fidgety and shaky. A regular visit to the vet will surely moderate their sugar level, and thus prevent violent shakings.
