Why do girls have periods?

Some girls are excited about their first period, or menstruation, while others dread to have it. Some are embarrassed to admit it, while others, on the other hand, are just proud and open about it. Either way, girls will eventually have menstrual periods, as this is part of a girl’s life. It is the gate to becoming a real woman, so there is absolutely no reason for girls to be scared of it. In fact, girls should be more aware, learn to adjust, and start acting more mature about the changes.

It is not only about the transition from a girl to a real woman, but it is also the process of developing the reproductive system. A period is part of the girls’ hormonal changes during adolescence, or the puberty stage. The first period usually begins between the ages of 10 and 14. While breasts start to develop and hair starts to grow in some private parts, having a menstrual period is a major change of the body’s system, and girls have to be prepared physically and emotionally.

Unlike boys, girls have ovaries in their reproduction system, and when girls reach the right age, they will start their menstrual cycle, or the ovulation process. This is a process where eggs contained in the ovaries ripen, and are released in the form of blood through the fallopian tubes and uterus, down to the vagina. This is a cycle that girls will continuously experience until they reach the menopausal stage.

One very important aspect of having menstrual periods is that girls can get pregnant at any time. This is the reason why girls should focus on taking care of themselves when they reach the puberty stage. Girls should also recognize the lessons offered from school regarding the reproductive system, not only to prevent early pregnancy, but also to properly take care of their bodies.
