Why Do Hemorrhoids Itch?

Hemorrhoids are a part of the anal canal that can easily become inflamed due to very many different causes: irregular bowel movements, various exercise, gravity, genetics, any sort of issue with the hemorrhoidal veins, and of course, aging.

Hemorrhoids itch because of several different reasons. Clearly, external hemorrhoids itch because they are right near an extremely sensitive bundle of nerves and blood vessels. Internal hemorrhoids, however, can still often cause the itching and burning sensations even though they are inside the body.

When any part of the boy becomes inflamed, blood vessels swell, lymph fill in around the wounded area in the intracellular spaces, pain nerves begin constantly firing, sending messages of pain to the brain, and alerting the body to the damage occurring. Immune cells arrive to the area to clear out any infection. This is the body’s first defense ‘š inflammation.

Inflammation also causes itching ‘š just by its nature. What happens is that as the hemorrhoids put a supply demand onto the nearby blood vessels that then run faster and cause even more swelling in the area, causing itching sensations. Internal hemorrhoids also can irritate the mucosal lining of the anal canal, which will then begin to relive the irritation by producing more mucus; when that excess mucus escapes the sphincter, it dries on surrounding skin, and irritates that area, creating even more inflammation, and more itching.

Scratching and itching the area will actually only increase the damage to the area, increasing the inflammation and itching sensations, which then cannot produce more oil to lubricate and calm the area because of the damage done to the area by the scratching.

Fortunately, many hemorrhoid topical creams actually contain anesthetics ‘š simple pain medication. But this only works for external hemorrhoids, and internal ones can cause this sort of pain too. However ibuprofen works just fine for the internal ones.
