Why do Underarms sweat?

Hyperhidrosis is otherwise known as excessive sweating. This is a common disorder that causes excessive discomfort to the people. Sweating under the arms is called as Axillary Hyperhidrosis and this is affected to around 2 percent to 3 percent of Americans. The sweating under the arm would begin at around the puberty stage.

Sweating will cause inconvenience in our social interactions. It gives a bad odor to the body such that it will become difficult for us to go into the public. The armpits will have hair filled in it which will hold the sweat for longer time and results in bad odor. As soon as you have shower, when you come out from the bathroom and dress yourself to go out, it starts sweating under the armpits for some people. Your skin temperature will rise as soon as you take bath and as it cools down slowly, it starts sweating under the arms. This happens especially as the armpits are closed and can retain the sweat that is released while the exposed parts of the body will not retain the sweat due to evaporation.

Generally people think that those who have underarm sweating do not take bath and do not have good hygiene. This is not true mostly. Emotional distress and anxiety are few reasons which can cause the Axillary Hyperhidrosis. But, these reasons may not cause underarm sweating all the time. The nervous disturbances will lead to the control of the sweat glands activity which will generate intense sweating under the arms. The numerous apocrine glands that are present under the arms are responsible for releasing more sweat under the arms. These glands produce proteins and fatty acids which are actually causing stains yellow in color under your arms when it is sweating. The other types of sweat glands are eccrine glands which are present in the palms and other regions of the body.

Other reasons for underarm sweating can be diabetes, metabolic disorders or neurological disorders. Most common reason is Hyperhidrosis which is excessive sweating which normally is seen in people at late teens. Some people are born with numerous sweat glands under the arm which might result in excessive sweating. This can be due to genetic reasons.
