Why Does Riku wear a Blindfold?
Around 2002, there was a role playing video game that was released that all of a sudden started to change the way that people would play games from then on out. Kingdom Hearts was the first of its kind and really put all of the other role playing games that came before it on the back burner. There has not been any other game to come out since Kingdom Hearts that offers the players so many different customization options as well as full and total control over the character that they choose to play with. This has been mimicked over there years, but Kingdom Hearts has always come out one step ahead of the competition.
One of the more interesting characters in this amazing game is called Riku who starts out in the series of games as a prisoner who needs to escape the evil King’s dungeon. Eventually, Riku makes it out of there with the help of the ousted King Mickey and goes on to take of the ruling country himself. One of the trademark items that Riku tends to wear throughout the game is a brightly colored blindfold that he rarely ever takes off. The reason why he decided to wear this blindfold is because he says that he did not want to see the truth in the chaotic world with his own two eyes, so he hid himself from it. He also says that his eyes can’t lie, which I find to be very telling and sad at the same time.
There is so much to love about this series of games and I think that every role playing fan out there should at least give this one a chance. It is addictive, not just because the story is fun or the characters are so interesting, but also because the gameplay is one of a kind as well. Riku is only the tip of the iceberg as far as character development goes, so there is much more to look forward to down the road with this incredible series.
