Doctor’s day was first celebrated locally in Barrow County, Georgia in 1933. This was celebrated to remember the first ether anesthesia administered surgery done by Dr. Crawford W. long on 30th March 1842. The Doctor’s day was begun by Eudora Brown Almond of Winder, Georgia. In the year 1958 and on March 30th United States legislation has passed a resolution to celebrate Doctor’s day. Later in the year 1990, the congress has approved the resolution and made it permanently the Day to be celebrated nationally every year as National Doctor’s day.
The Doctor’s day was celebrated to remember the services made by doctors to the society. In United States this day was finalized to be celebrated on March 30th by President George H.W. Bush in February 21st 1991. The first national Doctor’s day was done in 1991 in United States. The symbol of Doctor’s day was red carnation and it is identified as symbol for love, charity, sacrifice, bravery and courage.
Doctor’s day is celebrated on 1st of July every year in India and most of the parts of the world. This day is commemorated on the behalf of expressing greatfulness towards doctors and responding the dedication shown by the doctors towards the society. Another importance of this day is it being the birthday of Dr. B.C. Roy who is a popular physician in India.
The significance of celebrating Doctor’s day is that most of the population depends on the effectiveness of Doctors in their profession most of the time. In India doctors have shown tremendous improvement in their treatment methods over the years and in recognition to their efforts this day is dedicated for them. This day will also be an encouragement and inspiration for the doctors who failed to stick sincerely to their profession. Many people who had bad experiences with doctors previously can start respecting this profession and the doctors who really work hard tirelessly in order to save the lives of the patients.
