Ibuprofen is one medication that is widely sold in the pharmaceutical stores and markets. This drug is known to have a variety of functions and is categorized as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine. Aside from providing relief from almost all types of pain, Ibuprofen is known to have effects of analgesia and anti platelet effect. It also acts as a vasodilator in some blood vessels, particularly in the coronary artery. The primary mechanism of this drug is to inhibit perceptions of pain by acting on the pain receptors on an affected organ or area. It also reduces the degree of inflammation caused by trauma, injury or other related factors. Today, Ibuprofen is one of the many drugs enlisted in the World Health Organization’s Essential Drug List.
However, one of the major complaints regarding the use of Ibuprofen is its side effects. Most people who take the medication claim that Ibuprofen is bad. Although Ibuprofen has indeed therapeutic claims, many chemical experts have claimed that inadequate intake of such drug can be dangerous. One reason why Ibuprofen is bad is because it breaks down the protective lining in one’s digestive system causing the stomach and the intestinal tracts to eventually ulcerate. Aside from that, Ibuprofen has known to be affecting the kidneys and liver. These effects become evident when dark urine, black-colored stools or jaundice is observed. Intake of Ibuprofen can also affect the nervous system when certain chemical in the brain are disrupted by the drug’s action of reducing the degree of pain and inflammation. And lastly, Ibuprofen was found to affect the function of the cardiovascular system by interfering chemical signals that occur between the heart and the blood vessels.
It important therefore that, drugs of any kind be taken cautiously and with legal medical advice.
