Why is Music more than just entertainment?

Music is just one of the many forms of art. Using sound as the medium of expression, music comes from the Greek word “mousike”, which means the art of Muses. Music comes in various forms, definitions, and significance greatly depending on culture, belief, and social context. Tracking back to the history of music, it was the flute which was first found to produce music. As time passed by, music also evolved with the people. For Greek philosophers and ancient Indian philosophers, they believed that music is the product of horizontally ordered melodies and vertically sequenced harmonies. As the 20th century approached, the exploration of music through new innovations, rhythms and styles became the trend. Music from different genres was constantly developed and its production became more massive and appreciated by the different age groups that most people get satisfyingly entertained by the kind of music being listened to.

Today, music is more than just an entertainment. One of the many reasons why music is not just an entertainment is that music has become a very effective language for communicating and expressing one’s thoughts, feelings and emotions. Music nowadays has become one of the major forms of expression, especially when one is in a certain situation where everything is do compounded that no other form of expression can be done or made, except through the use of music. Music is more than just an entertainment because it conveys a message. It has become attached to different kinds of personalities that man possesses, that it allows the person to grow in all aspects of life. Music can also be mood setter or can be one’s source of identity and individuality.
These are just a few of the many reasons why music is not just an entertainment.
