Why is smoking addictive?

Smoking is an act of inhaling substances coming from burned smoke of tobacco or cannabis. It is primarily practiced in using recreational drugs that permit the lungs to absorb the produced from the burnt source such as that of nicotine. Although some may incorporate the habit of smoking in their ritual beliefs and other religious practices, smoking has been one of the most common forms of recreational drug use. With cigarettes as the frequently used method, health experts have claimed that the habit of smoking has become one of the most related factors for developing lung-related diseases and other associated diseases that may procure thereafter. The use of cigarettes can be traced back to as old as 5000 BC, where the practice was highly associated religious practices and ritualistic beliefs. It was believed to be cleansing form that washes bad spirits inside the body. However today, it has claimed to be one of the most hazardous substances that can detriment the condition of one’s health.
Smokers have claimed that the habit of smoking is one addictive practice. Health experts reason out that the main cause for addiction in smoking is the substance called nicotine. Nicotine can be easily absorbed in the bloodstream by inhalation through the lungs or in the chewing through the oral linings contained in the mouth. Nicotine is one of the many psychoactive drugs that act on the brain to release adrenaline and on the liver to produce glucose. As these substances are released, the person may experience elation and calmness at the same time. The intake of nicotine gives the person a feel good aura that temporarily relieves them from any stress.
Because of these reasons, many people still continue to smoke despite the untoward effects it can cause to one’s health.
