Vitamin C is also called as Ascorbic acid. Vitamin C was suggested to work better during common cold and the oranges are helpful for protecting you as they contain Vitamin C. Lack of Vitamin C will lead to the disease called Scurvy. Vitamin C is the most important and powerful anti-oxidant. Anti-oxidants are used to act against free radicals in the body. The damage caused due to the free-radicals in the body result in cancer, Alzhiemer’s disease, heart stroke and heart disease. It was studied that free-radicals are responsible for the aging process as well as some of the diseases that are said to be degenerative. Ascorbic acid can be used for disease prevention and also has its effects on aging process.
Vitamin C has the strength to enhance the arterial structure and has the anti-oxidant property. Vitamin C is also known to lower bad cholesterol and blood pressure. Ascorbic acid or Vitamin C has positive influence on the total health of the human being. Vitamin C helps in fighting the common cold and other similar situations which will improve the immune system.
As Ascorbic acid or Vitamin C is water soluble and this vitamin gets excreted. Therefore, Vitamin C cannot stay in the body for long duration and has to be taken every day. There are many foods that are rich in vitamin C. Few food items that are rich in vitamin C or Ascorbic acid are red peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage. Ascorbic acid is very high in Acai berries, oranges, black currants and strawberries. The major and one of the most important nutrients that is necessary for the human life is vitamin C. Excess intake of Ascorbic acid also leads to generation of kidney problems. Intake of vitamin C in large amounts can result in diarrhea or nausea. The substances that can fight against diseases called anti-oxidants can be synthesized using vitamin C or Ascorbic acid available in the market.
