Why Do Vaccines Cause Fever?
Vaccines have been very helpful to our health. Now, vaccines cause fewer side effects as compared from the past because there are already a lot of researches and studies on how to lessen side effects of immunizations. Any vaccine may cause a reaction and the reactions may also vary depending on the type of vaccine. Some of these reactions are fainting, allergy, sore arm, nausea, and fever.
When we bring our babies to the pediatrician and have him vaccinated, our baby usually experience fever the night after. This is one side effect of vaccine. Among the immunizations that can cause fever are DPT, measles, and mumps. The reaction on these immunizations is only short-term so there is nothing to worry. However, not all vaccines give this side effect.
According to immunologists, vaccines may cause fever because we are actually taking in our body a weakened version of a certain virus through the vaccine. Our immune system will then beat up the weakened version. The fever is the reaction of our body because the immune cells interact with the obtained immune cells to make antibodies. Our body has fever because it helps in slowing down the spread of the pathogens from where they come from.
If you experience fever after a vaccine, it’s better to ask a doctor for clarification. The doctor will just say it’s a normal reaction but when the fever is too high than the normal reaction, then it’s time to be alarmed. You need to consult the doctor who gave you the vaccine as soon as possible.
Vaccination is very important because it prevents us from getting more ailments in the future. Though there might be side effects from vaccines, still the long-term effect is much more beneficial. We must not be afraid of vaccines. We must protect our body and one way to do this is through immunization.
