Why Does Weed make you Paranoid?

In the Journal of Neuropharmacology some scientists explained why the weed taken in can cause paranoia in the person. The scientists say that tetrahydrocannabinol when taken in low doses will make the person remain calm but high doses will have a contradictory effect.

Daniela Paralora studying on this aspect at the University of Insubria worked very hard to get an answer on why the weed makes us paranoid. She injected a little quantity of marijuana weed derived chemical into various parts of the rat brain. She watched for any behavioral change that might occur in the rats due to the drug. Her team learned that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) showed positive effect on prefrontal cortex and ventral hippocampus. The drug was found to be causing anxiousness in the rats when it was injected into the basolateral amygdale region of the brain.

It is understood that there is loss of motor coordination when the weed is used in smoking. It will first result in weird hallucinations and later lead to paranoia. Before the person becomes paranoid due to the chemical present in the weed called THC, he will suffer from memory problems. Furthermore, he will have difficulty in learning, destruction of all the senses, lacking ability to think more, and the heart rate might be increased. All the above mentioned symptoms are only short term effects of the weed marijuana. The long term effects include cancer, affected lungs, and affected immune system.

Marijuana interferes with the communication between the neurons in the brain. To retrieve memory, one neuron should send signals to the other which is obstructed by marijuana through the cannabinoid receptors. This results in losing the memory. The cannabinoid receptors control the memory, concentration, thought and coordinated movement. The THC also affects the release of neurotransmitters.

The chemicals in the weed do not exhibit neuro-protective properties and give displeasure. They also reduce the cognitive function of the brain hence, make people lose their memory. The tetrahydrocannabinol stimulates mental disturbances and makes people experience relapse. As the weed affects mainly the central nervous system it causes paranoia.

Hello! Just read your article on marijuana and paranoia. I strongly disagree with your so called facts.I use medical marijuana everyday and have been for many moons. It has done nothing but Good for my health. It hasn’t hampered my thinking process or memory. It does help me… with decreasing pain from chronic pancreatitis…caused by alcohol.I have 13 years sober from that ; ) It also improves my mood for which i’m proned to depression. It stimulates my appetite so i’m hungry everyday because a lot of times i’m not naturally. It gives me the energy to walk almost 6 miles a day.I hadn’t walked six miles in 10 years using pharmacuiticals for pain and anxiety/depression. I guess I get offended when I read this old information that badly needs updating.Talk to people who use cannabis and let them tell you as I have how it has enabled them a much better quality of life.I thank God for medical marijuana.Peace…Rachel

dude this page cracks me up… weed is not bad the only bad thing about marijuana is the fact you get the munchies… I smoke weed on a daily bases and never have I had a hallucination… the only reason why we get paranoid is because you never know when a cop will pull up. if it was legal then you wouldnt be paranoid. and you cant overdose on it so what else would you be paranoid about? once its legal we wont have to worry about paranoia… smokeing weed doesnt make you a bad person just like Christians dont have to go to church to belive in god… im very successful Nd I smoke every single day. I could drop it today and never go back to it amd I know m y people who could also.. in no way is it addictive… it does help with chronic pain… it stimulates growth of new cells… and btw it puts ur brain cells asleep not kill them or getrid of them…its better then going out and buying painkillers off a dealer and getting a felony per pill rather then as long as it is under 30grams its a misdemeanor…. come on people plus u get more weed with ur money… it okay your just very uneducated because you think its a ‘drug’ whats the differnce of smoking and feeling better then taking a pill to feel better but yiu could react off the pill of an od and its slowly killing you… but id perfer to somke and get better bot haveing any consequences from smokeing… hell it even helps with lung cancer.. smh learn your facts Sarah…..

And the other thing is no one has to actually ‘smoke’ marijuana anymore. Now its’ much better and healthier to use a vaporizer or eat it in medicated foods.Get with it!

First of all Sarah…you don’t have a clue what your talking about. You don’t know me or my medical conditions.Personally I believe cannabis should be legal…period.Like I had stated…I was addicted to alcohol..the legal substance that I obtained easily at a very young age.I think its’ ignorant and hypocritical for anyone to say its’ worse than alcohol Or the prescriptions the docs had me on for my conditions.I’m surely not asking for your approval. That said…I don’t smoke anything either…carcinogens are bad for you.I make medicated teas and vaporize.I’m never ‘stoned’…just relieved of pain…nausea and anxiety(I have PTSD).And yes…it also relaxes me and allows me feel a lot healthier too. Its’ a gift from God and I’m grateful that I don’t have to take man made chemicals anymore. And oh…I can also jog the 6 mi a day.Not bad for a 55 year old type 1 diabetic.Peace
