Why is Drama important?

Drama is one mode of emotional expression that is usually represented in theatrical performances or in literature. The word originated from the Greek vocabulary which means action, which in turn, was derived from the words, to do. Drama may highly be associated with comedy or tragedy that is frequently depicted in literary works turned into theatrical performances. Examples of which are the tragedy of Hamlet written by the famous William Shakespeare and the classical tragedy of Oedipus the King, which was written by Sophocles in 429 BC. During the 19th century, drama was narrowly taken as a form of play. And as time progressed, the use of the term became associated as a form of genre to categorize films, movies and shows.
The inclusion of drama as part of one’s learning has several significant reason of why it exists. One reason why drama is important is because it hones one’s ability to respond to new and unexpected circumstances. It allows a person to be spontaneous and make amends for any sudden upsurge of events. Another reason why drama is important is because it helps in one’s exploration of thoughts, feelings and emotions. It also allows one to communicate and understand oneself and others. Drama is found to create a safe atmosphere for expression of what one thinks and feels. Adding to that, drama is important because it brings out the real self of one person through how experiences affect the person. More so, drama builds one’s confidence, develops one’s interpersonal skills and allows one to learn from the real life drama that each person experiences. Drama profoundly influences a person’s life and is deemed to play a significant role in dealing with real life issues and concerns.
Drama is important primarily because life is a drama.
