Why is giving back important

Giving back is probably one of the most commendable and liberating virtues that one can do. It can also be infectious if commonly practiced. However, it is also one of the hardest thing to do and is often viewed to be outlandish since the world that we live in gives importance to earning for oneself, being proud, selfish, inconsiderate and all.

People can give a lot of excuses why it is hard to give or give back. But, knowing the importance of giving back may shed a new meaning to one’s way of living which in turn may result to positive character formation.

Whether time, skills, or money, giving back is a positive quality therefore it produces positive outcome not just to the recipients but also to the giver. It is a humbling experience and it can boost one’s self-esteem. It provides an opportunity to bless others through the blessings that is also given to you.

Giving back is another way to show how thankful you are for the things that you have earned along with passing the goodness to other people. Besides, giving back may open more windows of opportunities in one’s life in a way that one can learn new skills, build social connections, gain a new perspective in life, develop a sense of responsibility, and even a chance to receive more blessings.

Aside from character development, giving back is also good for one’s health. The good feeling that one can get in giving back to others may arouse the release of endorphins (happy and pain relieving hormones) which has been connected to the improvement in the functioning of the immune and the nervous systems. Other studies also have found that giving back helps fight depression as the practice creates individual empowerment and social relevance.

These are just few of the many reasons why giving back is important. And all these will just remain words if not experienced. Show random acts of kindness to others today and soon you will reap what you have sowed.
