Why should the Driving age be raised to 18?

To answer this question I’ll be using a comparison as to whether driving age should be raised or not.

To those who are IN favour, here are some of their reasons:

*Road accidents would be lessened.

oAccidents and deaths caused by teen drivers involved in reckless driving incidents would lessen.

+According to the study conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, there were 30,917 fatalities in accidents that involved 15-17 year old drivers between the year 1995 and 2004. One third of those who died were the teen drivers themselves while the remaining were those people who were struck by those teenage truck drivers.
o

Young Drivers overestimate their skill

+Young drivers tend to become more prone to risky behaviour and get easily distracted from the lack of experience.

+Young drivers are not yet aware of the responsibilities of operating a motor vehicle.

*Reduce road traffic.

+Fewer drivers mean fewer cars on the road resulting in less road traffic and congestion.

*It encourages young people to stay healthy.

+Young people are forced to walk and commute which is another form of exercise.

To those who are NOT in favour, here are some of their reasons:

*Not because a majority of teens have been involved in road accidents, it means that all teens are prone to it. There are still some of those who are safe and responsible drivers and almost all adult drivers began driving at a young age. Let us not limit their privilege just because of the fault of an irresponsible few.

*Graduate Driver Licensing or GDL is available to new drivers to make sure that they get enough experience under the eye of an experience older driver. Only once they gained experience under these restrictions, will he/she gain a full driving license.

*Experience is the key to producing safe and responsible drivers and driving at a young age can help them gain that. Raising the driving age will only create more inexperienced drivers at 18 instead of 16.

In conclusion, for me I would not agree to this because age will not determine the maturity of a person to handle motor vehicles but it is based on his or her experience.

I strongly agree that the legal driving age should be eighteen because young teens don’t need behind the wheel of a car. There is to many responsiblites when you are behind the wheel. Not only do you have your life but you also have the ppl’s life that in the car and all around you lifes to thank about. I REALLY DON’T THINK TEENS UNDER 18 SHOULD HAVE THEIR LISNES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i strongly dis agree with you because driving at a young age teaches responsibility and its wrong to force teens to completely rely on their parents for every thing its also unfair for the parents who have to constantly chauffeur their kids around until they are adults…

You suck this is the worst essay ever.. raising the age would not do anything it would not lessen ANY accidents because the 18 year olds, 2000 year olds for all i care!!! would be NEW at driving and STILL have accidents. So i guess its time to OPEN UP YOUR MIND FATSO.
