Why do hugs feel so good?
The act of hugging is one form of showing physical intimacy. It involves skin to skin contact between two persons, where the arms of one person are typically wrapped around the body of another person and same is true for the other person. Commonly associated with a kiss or other forms of gestures, the act of giving hugs is considered as nonverbal form of communication. Although hugging is variously observed in different countries of the world, hugs are deemed to be one effective way of expressing one’s feelings.
There are various interpretations in the act of hugging. From one culture to another, the involvement of skin contact has a variety of meanings. Some countries even observe strict laws with regards to showing of skin or having skin to contact with other people. Hugs come in two forms, which are spooning and snuggling. But regardless of its form, experts have claimed that hugs have positive effects on health. Research has shown that hugs increase levels of oxytocin as well as it reduces blood pressure levels. In addition to that, hugs have known to increase levels of serotonin, which is the hormone responsible for one’s mood, emotional responses and energy levels. With its increase, it stimulates other systems to function efficiently and adequately giving one person an exceptional feeling of wellness. Hugs feel good because it serves as one avenue of expressing any kind of emotion that is difficult to express verbally. More so, hugs feel so good because it relieves any feelings of emptiness and burdens that one may have carried for quite some time. Hugs do feel so good because all unexpressed feelings can be expressed in the manner of hugging.
Hugs are indeed one effective way of releasing tension and finding satisfactory relief.
