Why is Mountain Dew bad for you?

Mountain Dew is one of the many carbonated drinks sold in the market. Its citrus flavor makes this drink different from the rest. This soft drink is produced by PepsiCo which was invented way back in 1940s by two beverage bottlers of Tennessee. The two bottlers were recognized to be Barney and Ally Hartman. After it was produced and marketed, the drink’s ingredients were revised in 1958 by a man named Bill Bridgforth. Until then, the drink was first distributed among the states in America and was further brought to other parts of the globe. The first packaging of the beverage featured cartoon-like mountaineers. Later, revisions were made until an eye catching logo was made and remains to be featured until this day.
The main ingredients contained in every bottled and can of Mountain Dew are carbonated water, High-fructose corn syrup, concentrated orange juice, citric acid, natural flavors, yellow 5, gum Arabic, caffeine and many other elements that most people ignore. As further studies were conducted, it was discovered that Mountain Dew has associated serious health concerns, despite its upsurge in the market. The ingredient, high-fructose corn syrup, was found to worse than ordinary sugar. When large amount are taken, it can cause obesity, migraines, gallstones, lower resistance, and even cardiovascular diseases. Another ingredient known as yellow 5 or tartrazine, is a food dye that were found to cause behavioral problems among children and can cause allergic reactions. It was also discovered that most of the ingredients often ignored by consumers such as sodium benzoate and brominated vegetable oil can cause serious problems such as memory loss, liver cirrhosis and Parkinson’s disease.
It is therefore important that one be conscious of what is being consumed, especially those that are processed and synthetically made.
